I should have heard the chimes before I purchased. They are very loud! Not pleasant sounding, but harsh. Nothing like my previous clock. Also, I guess I didn't really check this one out. I thought since it chimed on the hour it would 'ring' the time. I am very disappointed that it does not. It does look good and is a good match for our furniture.

RECOMMENDED: No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Outstanding purchase. Very satisfied. However, one feature that bothers me and which I apparently missed when reading its description, is the fact that the Westminister chime that chimes on the hour, doses not chime THE hour. In other words, if not viewing the clock face while it is chiming the hour, the actual time is not indicated.
